Does the thought of a dental appointment make you nervous? Neglecting your oral health due to a fear of the dentist? Dental anxiety is actually extremely common, with about 40 million Americans neglecting routine dental treatment due to their anxiety. At Katy Dental Experts in Katy, TX, we offer conscious sedation dentistry, which allows our patients to have a calmer, relaxing and comfortable experience during treatment.
For patients that experience mild to moderate anxiety due to the dentist, drills or even just the dental office in general, nitrous oxide sedation can be a great option. Unlike other forms of sedation, conscious sedation provides a relaxing, calm experience without severely sedating you or putting you to sleep. You will be awake during the entire procedure and able to communicate with your dentist.
During your appointment at our Katy dental office, a small mask will be put over your nose. The mask will pump both nitrous oxide and oxygen through the mask for you to breathe; within a few minutes, the nitrous oxide will begin to work. Some patients say they feel “heavy” during conscious sedation, but the overall experience is a calming and pleasant one.
After your treatment, the mask will be removed, and the nitrous oxide sedation effects will begin to wear off, allowing you to continue your day without needing monitoring or a ride from our dental office.
Have you neglected your oral health due to dental anxiety? Not to worry, contact our Katy dental practice today and ask about an appointment with conscious sedation dentistry.
