Tooth Extraction

Tooth Extraction

Although permanent teeth are meant to last a lifetime, tooth extraction may be necessary for a variety of reasons. While many teenagers and adults have their wisdom teeth extracted, there are other reasons why adult tooth extraction may be required.

A tooth that is too badly damaged to be repaired due to trauma or decay is a common reason. Other considerations include:

      • Gum disease when left untreated can be just as harmful to teeth as tooth decay.
      • Traumatic damage such as a fall or blow to the face
      • Overcrowding or when your teeth are too big to fit properly into your mouth
      • An impacted tooth that has not fully erupted or has only partially erupted beyond the gum line.

Tooth extraction is the process of removing one or more teeth from its socket. The type of tooth extraction required is determined by the shape, size, position, and location of the tooth in the mouth. Katy Dental Experts will ask for a detailed medical history during the consultation. We will also inquire about any medications you are taking.

Simple Tooth Extractions

A simple extraction is when a tooth that is visible in your mouth is extracted. We will give you a local anesthetic to numb the tooth and gum tissue so that all you feel during the procedure is pressure rather than pain. We will then loosen your tooth with an elevator before removing it with dental forceps during a simple extraction.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of one or more wisdom teeth, which are the four permanent adult teeth located at the top and bottom corners of your mouth. Like simple extraction, we will give you a local anesthetic to numb the tooth and gum tissue.

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to develop in your jaws, and they often do not erupt into the correct position like the other teeth in your mouth due to a lack of space. They are extracted to either correct an existing problem or to prevent future problems.

It can be frightening and nerve-wracking to have a tooth extraction but with Katy, you are in good hands. Just let us know if you need one so we can schedule your appointment in Katy, TX.
